With pharmacy access a woman no longer needs to make an appointment with a doctor or nurse practitioner to get a prescription for EC and then find a pharmacy that stocks the pills. Now, a woman can go directly to her pharmacy, speak with a pharmacist about her need for EC, and receive the pills immediately - saving valuable time.
Women seeking EC will have to answer a few questions for the record and to rule out an established pregnancy, review a fact sheet about EC, and sign an informed consent form. The whole process should only take a few minutes.
Pharmacists who wish to participate in the program will voluntarily register for EC training and register with the NH Board of Pharmacy.
To dispense the drug, pharmacists will pair up with doctors and nurse practitioners who can prescribe EC. These licensed prescribers give their pharmacist partners permission to use their prescription power. In return, the pharmacists give the women receiving EC the name of their physician or nurse practitioner partner.
